Rutherford Schools Chief Holding Reorganization Roundtable

RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A proposal to to create a dedicated middle school and upper elementary school is “nearing the end of the planning stages,” said Schools Supt. Jack Hurley, who has scheduled a reorganization roundtable discussion on Sept. 29.

Under the proposal, the Pierrepont School would become an upper elementary school for grades 4 to 6, while Union School, with its large multi-purpose room and auditorium, would become a middle school for grades 7 and 8.The Kindergarten Center, Lincoln Elementary, Washington Elementary and Rutherford High schools would remain as they are.

Officials cite the academic and social benefits of a dedicated middle school, including subject specialists and an onsite guidance counselor. 

The roundtable discussion begins at 7 p.m. in the Rutherford High School auditorium at 50 Elliott Place.
